the heart that burns

a list

green and fear and protection. shunned and scared and ridiculed and destroyed. there was someone there but now there is just a cornered animal

yellow and laughter and boredom. free and caged and judged and sang. the voice that whispers in your ear to lead you out of a spiral only to take you to another one

blue and grief and love. torn away and saved and sang and gone. a shadow left by the tears of the living and the embrace of the dead

red and song and smiles. lived and died and died and did not want to live again. a knife smoothed down to just a pretty piece of metal

fury and destruction and hunger and fire and anger and hate. a fate that was inevitable

colorless and fading and waiting. happy and sad and okay and dead. a piece filing its edges back down until it’s the same shape it used to be
